The tried and true rock formula has been plagued with the fashion of today’s scene for far too long. The days of flared out 80s rock bands that looked cooler than they sounded have returned making way for a number of untalented, apathetic rock bands that “have the look” to succeed. Luckily bands like Throw The Fight know where to piece things together creating a formula of anathematic tunes no matter the cost.

While Throw The Fight can come off as a generic, smoother version of the over-produced Madina Lake at moments, their opener, “Ready For War”, are sure to rid them of those preconceived notions. Throw The Fight embrace the dueling guitar harmonies, the immense breakdowns, and the innate sense of melody that represents itself in tracks like “The Wreckage” and “Into The Fire”. Rather than becoming an excessive force, Throw The Fight are taking names by balancing their songs between the brink of pure heaviness and the soothing melodies. A number of Throw The Fight’s tracks can get your blood pumping, but the songs have the tendency to feel very middle of the road at moments, especially the bands attempted at a ballad, “It’s For You”.

You may not have heard of Throw The Fight before this debut, but the album is explosive and guaranteed to garner a cult following. Despite it’s downfalls, In Pursuit Of Tomorrow, is one hell of a release. It maintains the heaviness of modern day melodic metal, while being accessible to those engulfed in today’s post hardcore era and most importantly without the need of tight jeans or “guy liner”. Some of today’s bands find the need to be excessive and overwhelming with their rock personas which has gotten to be just plain annoying. Rather than taking this trite worn out path, Throw The Fight keep things fun and to the point in their debut giving them a natural appeal.
